Ni'lin under curfew: international support needed

06/07/2008

Dear Friends of Ni’lin,

Most of you know about the situation in Ni’lin - the village has been under curfew since last Friday. the Israeli army has imposed this curfew as a collective punishment against the people of Ni’lin to curtail the nonviolent demonstrations against the illegal construction of the Wall on Ni’lin’s land.

The situation now is grave: nobody can leave their houses, nobody is allowed in or out the village, the people are running out of food and the local clinic is running out of much needed medical supplies that they need to treat the victims of the Israeli violence that has occured over the last couple of days. A young child was shot in the throat with a rubbercoated bullet and is unable to receive proper medical treatment.

The village is in desperate need of basic food items and medical supplies.

WE NEED INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT TO HELP BRING THE MUCH NEEDED SUPPLIES TO THE VILLAGE OF NI’LIN. The chances of internationals getting in to distribute aid are much higher than Palestinians, the more internationals the better (isn’t this what you are here for anyway?)

WE ARE ASKING EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU TO MOBILIZE YOUR LOCAL NETWORK TO TRAVEL TO THE VILLAGE OF NI’LIN AND HELP DISTRIBUTE THE GOODS.

Also, we are asking you to bring some food items with you for the people of Ni’lin.
Items needed:

  • bread
  • rice
  • milk
  • canned goods
  • dried beans, lentils, chick peas..etc.

The curfew will not be reviewed by the army untill Tuesday, so the village will need at least two days of supplies.

We are currently coordinating with local health organisations to get medical supplies to Ni’lin, so mostly what the village needs from you are the food items listed above.

Tomorrow, Monday July 7th, we will leave at 10 am from Ni’lin bus station (behind Ziryab). Please confirm your attendance by calling either Hindi (who’s in the village) or Nassir:
Hindi: 0599 839843 Nassir: 0598 921 790

If you cannot attend, don’t despair. There is still much work you can do:
Liase with your perspective media sources at home to bring international attention to Ni’lin
International media can contact Hindi, who is currently bunkering down with his people in Ni’lin at 0599 839843 or Nassir at 0598 921 790 . Local Palestinian and/or Arab Regional media attention is also needed, so please reach out to these sources as well! Local and regional media can contact Salah at 0599 288124.

Please distribute this email widely. Ni’lin is counting on each and everyone of you!

Another group for Ni'lin Tomorow afternoon

Because Ni’lin has a population of 5,000 people and we want to make sure that aid reaches everyone in need we are planning to organize another trip tomorrow, Monday July 7th, in the afternoon (leaving Ramallah around 3 pm, same location, same needed food items).

As we previously informed you, the situation in Ni’lin is serious. We will keep you updated on the second trip scheduled for 3 P.M. during the day tomorrow because we want to see what is still needed after the first trip to Ni’lin in the morning. Please keep your emails open, and don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and find out what you can do.

We hope that all of you will come out, either in the morning or the afternoon, to show your solidarity with and support for the villagers of Ni’lin.
