Four injured and two arrested in Bil'in anti-Wall protest

After the weekly Friday prayers, residents of the West Bank village of Bil’in, near Ramallah and a group of International and Israeli peace activists took to the streets of the village.

The protesters carried Palestinian flags and banners celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the first Intifada. They chanted slogans which called for the dismantling of the separation wall and the settlements, the removal of military checkpoints and the release of Palestinian detainees from Israeli jails.

On Friday after the weekly prayers, residents of the West Bank village of Bil’in, west of the city of Ramallah and a group of International and Israeli peace activists marched in a massive rally.

They carried with them Palestinian flags and banners that called for the maintenance of Palestinian national principles including the issues of Jerusalem, the right of return, boundaries, water, the release of all Palestinian detainees, removal of the Separation Wall and the dismantling of all Israeli settlements.

On the eve of the meeting intended to restart negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians at Annapolis, Maryland, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced that Israel will build no new West Bank settlements, but will not “strangle” existing Israel settlements. This means that construction in the 149 existing Israeli settlements throughout the West Bank that are strangling Palestinians, including the settlements on our village’s land, will continue unchecked. Olmert’s cynical announcement underlines our fear that Israel, with US support, will insist on retaining most West Bank settlements in the upcoming negotiations, locking Palestinians into a “separate but unequal” position.

Six wounded, five detained in Bil'in's Anti-wall protest

Residents of the village of Bil’in near the West Bank city of Ramallah organized their weekly Anti-Wall nonviolent protest this Friday, and were joined by a number of international and Israeli peace activists.

Protestors marched through the village carrying banners demanding the dismantling of the wall and calling for national unity. Israeli troops intercepted the protest and prevented them from reaching the construction site of the wall by installing additional layers of barbed wire.

The villagers of Bil’in, located northwest of Ramallah in the West Bank, along with their international and Israeli supporters, conducted their weekly protest against the illegal Israeli wall built on the village land. This week, French parliamentarians, municipality leaders, union representatives, left wing political faction officials and other EU officials joined the villagers of Bil’in.
