The villagers of Bil’in, located northwest of Ramallah in the West Bank, along with their international and Israeli supporters, conducted their weekly protest against the illegal Israeli wall built on the village land. This week, French parliamentarians, municipality leaders, union representatives, left wing political faction officials and other EU officials joined the villagers of Bil’in.

Palestinian demonstrators who pushed Israel to reroute the path of its contentious West Bank separation barrier won the first Yasser Arafat Achievement Award Monday at an event marking three years since the legendary leader’s death.

On Friday, the villagers of Bil’in joined their international and Israeli supporters and marched against the wall that is built illegally on the village land.
The protest started from the village mosque went through the village towards the lands that have been cordoned behind the wall. At the road, Israeli soldiers were waiting at a razor wire barricade, they had put there. As soon as the unarmed protesters approached, Israeli troops showered them with tear gas, rubber bullets and sound bombs. Five protesters, among them two internationals, were injured.

For the people of our small village of Bil’in, which lies west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, the planned negotiations between Palestinian and Israeli leaders in Annapolis, Maryland evoke mixed feelings. Like all Palestinians, we pray that our children will not spend their lives as we did, under Israeli military occupation.
