In mid February of 2007 two Palestinian, nonviolent human-rights activists, Mohammad Khatib and Feryal Abu Haikal, were in the Detroit area as part of a national tour. The Roeper School, located in the Detroit suburbs of Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham, with a body of 630 gifted students from preschool to 12th grade, was contacted to host the speakers. The school seemed to be an ideal place for Khatib and Abu Haikal to give their presentations as its philosophy has an "optimistic and humanistic view of life," with a commitment to justice, non-violence, and "accepting one’s obligation to make the world a better place for everyone." Roeper agreed to host the speakers.

The Palestinian journalist’s bloc (PJB) gauged 15 attacks on Journalists in late April in the Palestinian territories. The bloc said that the Israeli occupation troops have been continuing attacks on journalists in addition to attacks perpetrated by Palestinians, the latest was the shooting on Al Aqsa Satellite channel TV crew in Gaza.

On Friday, villagers from the Bil’in, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, along with international and Israeli peace activists, marched in the weekly nonviolent protest against the illegal wall Israel is building on stolen village land.

Nobel Peace Prize recipient Maguire said today: "I was invited with my friend to attend a nonviolent conference in Bilin, a village outside Ramallah [in the West Bank], and to give a talk there, which I did. At the end of the conference, we were invited to participate in a nonviolent demonstration with some of the Palestinian members of parliament and Israeli peace activists and local villagers and international visitors.
