The Israeli army stops the Bil’in’s weekly protest celebrating the 33rd anniversary of Land Day

The residents of Bil’in marched towards the wall today after the Friday prayer. The protest was called by the popular committee against the wall remarking the 33rd anniversary of Land Day. Protesters carried banners condemning Israeli’s ongoing racist policies, some of these banners say: “Unity against land confiscation”, “Stop home demolishing” and “Free Palestinian political prisoners”.

The march began from the presentation of the Bil’in team for Folklore they roamed the streets of the village, an expression of their participation in the celebrations of Jerusalem as the capital of Arab culture. At the same time, the protest today coincides with the Arab Summit in Damascus. The protesters called on the summit to move from the talking phase to an action phase, where collective punishment, siege, land confiscation, settlement building and crimes against civilians do not need waiting and negotiating. Boycotting Israeli and cutting ties with it, is a must step now.

They participated in the march group of the Palestinian National Initiative included cadre and their organs and their supporters and was led by Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi. The protest began in the center of the village, called for national unity and resistance to the occupation, and headed towards the Apartheid Wall which is built on Bil’in’s land. An Israeli army unit was stationed behind the wall and prevented the crowd from going through the gate. The army fired tear gas canisters to disturb the crowd, causing dozens to suffer gas inhalation, and injured four young’s: Hamuda Yassen, Mohammed Shwwkat Alkhated, Adeeb Aburahma and an international journalist.

Sna from France expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian people in general and Bil’in in particular “I’m here today with the village of Bil’in which became a symbol of nonviolent resistance, and I’m calling for solidarity with the Palestinian people. The conditions that are forced by the Israeli occupation through building the wall, settlements, checkpoints and home demolishing are prohibiting the establishment of a Palestinian state”.
