Today, May 27, 2010 at noon the Israeli army invaded the village of Bil’in again. A woman was heard shouting, "Soldiers are taking my sons!". A villager went to her house and saw 10 soldiers walking in the field with two of her sons they were detaining. They were Ramsy Mohammed Ali Yasseen (24 years old) and Abdullah Mohammed Ali Yasseen (17 years old). Shortly after a verbal intervention between this villager and the soldiers in the open field, they released the older brother Ramsy Mohammed Ali Yasseen, but arrested Abdullah Mohammed Ali Yasseen, blindfolded and handcuffed him and took him away to an unknown location. Their home is situated close to the Apartheid Wall and is being raided on a regular basis. A couple of months ago, another brother had been arrested and released after two weeks in prison. Simultaneously, one Jeep was seen in another part of the village at the time when all the children had finished school and were walking home.

Two demonstrators were severely injured and several others suffered from breathing problems due to tear gas and a camera man from the Arab news channel, Al-Arabiya, was arrested in the weekly march against the Apartheid Wall in the village of Bil’in. This highlights the continued violent response by the Israeli military to prevent the people of Bil’in from exercising their right to protest against a Wall which has been deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice.
At this week’s march, people at the front of the march, were carryied a five meter long key as a banner, representing the Palestinian right of return, while three people from the village dressed up as ‘Handala’, a little boy which appears in all drawings of Naji al-Ali, the famous Palestinian cartoonist who was assassinated in 1987.

The popular committees in Palestine decry the unjust persecution of leaders of the popular resistance in Palestine. In particular, we strongly condemn the Israeli Shin Bet for denying Mr. Iyad Burnat to leave Palestine. Eyad is the head of the local Popular Committee to Resist the Settlements and Apartheid Wall in Bilin. He was invited for a speaking tour in Italy and Switzerland on the topic Palestinian nonviolent resistance. His hosts including the mayer of Geneva (Remy Pigany) and organizers of the Peace march in Italy were dismayed when informed that the Israeli authorities refused to let Mr. Burnat cross the bridge to Jordan on 1 May 2010.
