Bil’in village holds press conference and a demonstration against construction of the Apartheid Wall. Palestinian residents, alongside international and Israeli activists gathered today in Bil’in to demonstrate against the Wall. Before the demonstration, Naomi Klein, Basel Mansour, and Attorney Wisam Ahmad held a press conference.

There, we had the first surprise. The IOF were hiding behind the concrete walls and non of the soldiers were seen only the jeeps. Demonstrators didn’t shower with tear gas as every past Fridays. When few activists opened the external gate fortified with barbed wire, still nothing. Not even when some approached the electronic fence and put there on fire a used car tier.

[B’Tselem] On Friday, 5 June 2009, ‘Aqel Sror, 35, was killed when a border policeman fired a live, 0.22 inch caliber bullet at his chest during a demonstration held in Ni’lin. Four other demonstrators were injured by 0.22 bullets that day. One of them suffered a severe wound to the spinal cord, which his physicians estimate will leave him permanently paralyzed.

Two protesters were injured and dozens suffered from gas inhalation when Israeli troops attack the weekly protest in Bil’in village near the central West Bank city of Ramallah on Friday midday.

Today, Yousef Sadeq Srour, also known as ‘Aqel’, was killed by the Israeli army during a weekly non violent demonstration in the village of Ni’lin.
Around 2 pm this afternoon, a 16 year old boy was also shot with live ammunition, in the fields next the villages houses. Yousef was at the scene and tried to carry the boy who was critically injured and on the ground. When he picked him, the Israeli army shot Yousef in the chest with a .22 bullet. He and the boy were both transferred to the hospital, but it was too late for Yousef. The boy is currently in critical condition.
