The Popular Committees of the West Bank are calling for non-violent popular demonstrations through out the West Bank of Palestine on Thursday December 31st, 2009. This is the one-year anniversary of Israel’s Operation Cast Lead massacre on the people of Gaza, when 1400 people were killed and some 5000 were injured during the 22 day assault. These demonstrations are happening in solidarity with the marches in Gaza as well as numerous international actions.

At dawn today the Israeli occupation army raided the village of Bil’in. At 2am a military force composed of a number of military jeeps and approximately 50 soldiers on foot abducted Hamouda Imad Yassin (16) and Ibrahim Khalil Yassin (16).

On Friday, December 25, 2009 villagers of Bil’in attempted to march to their land stolen by the Apartheid Wall. Representatives of the the Fatah Party, including central committee member Abass Zaki, joined the march. Demonstrators dressed as Santa Claus carried a Christmas tree decorated with tear gas canisters and percussion grenades that were used by the military against the demonstrations.

Display of used tear gas canisters shot by the army earns Bil’in activist an arms charge in Israeli military court

Abdallah Abu Rahmah, a school teacher and coordinator of the Bil’in Popular Committee Against the Wall, was indicted in an Israeli military court yesterday. Abu Rahmah was slapped with an arms possession charge for collecting used tear gas canisters shot at demonstrators in Bil’in by the army and showcasing them in his home.
