Jailed Bil'in protest organizer, Abdallah Abu Rahmah, released one day behind schedule

[Popular Struggle] Abu Rahmah was released this evening, after having served the 16 months sentence imposed on him by the Israeli Military Court of Appeals for organizing demonstrations. Abu Rahmah was received by his family, friends and supporters at the prison’s gate and vowed to continue the struggle.

[Popular Struggle] Abu Rahmah is expected to be released after having served the 16 months sentence imposed on him by the Israeli Military Court of Appeals for organizing demonstrations. Abu Rahmah will be received by his family, friends and supporters, and will hold a press conference at the prison’s gate on his release.

photo [Stop the Wall] We spoke with Iyas Abu Rahmah, a 19-year-old activist, photographer and film student from the village of Bil’in. He began by speaking about his work and activism in Bil’in:

“I am a volunteer with Stop the Wall Campaign and a member of the Campaign in Bil’in. I coordinate with the youth on how to do voluntary work and a lot of other activities. The most important is for the Friday demonstrations, raising the posters and the banners, and the Palestinian flags. The second thing is that we work on the international level, […] [We also carry out] voluntary work in the village. Sometimes there is cleaning the village, with the Campaign. There are also [activities] with the Campaign in Ramallah; for example we participated in the last march, the “end the division” march, and the march in solidarity with the Egyptian people’s revolution.”


Bil’in marches against US veto in the United Nations

Dozens were injured in the weekly demonstration against the Occupation and settlements. The demonstration was held against the United State’s veto of a UN resolution which condemned Israel’s illegal settlements. The demonstration was attacked with tear gas by Israeli soldiers who wanted to crush the nonviolent demonstration. Hundreds from Palestine, Israel and the international community attended the demonstration. The demonstration was also in solidarity with the Libyan people.

Bil'in Marked the Sixth Anniversary of the Start of the Popular Resistance against the Wall and Occupation

photo [Popular Struggle] During the weekly demonstration five people were injured and dozens suffered from server cases of asphyxia from tear gas. Hundreds of Palestinians joined by Israeli and international solidarity actives marched under the banner of unity and an end to the occupation. Today’s demonstration marked six years of struggle in the village against the wall and the occupation. In that time, Bil’in has become an international symbol of unarmed resistance to Israeli Occupation. Entering the seventh year of resistance, the village called for Palestinian unity and end to the Israeli Occupation, the longest military occupation in modern history.
