In a similar tactic to the one used by settlers to establish new outposts, a house was built today by Palestinian, Israeli and international activists in the controversial E-1 area between the Ma’ale Adumim settlement and Jerusalem.

At the demonstration today in Bil’in, three demonstrators, two Palestinians and one Israeli, were seriously hurt. The first wounded demonstrator was a 40 year old resident of Bil’in and was shot in the hand and chest with a teargas canister which burned through his coat and shirt, broke the palm of his hand and injured his chest. The teargas canister was fired directly at the protester from short range.

A day in Bil’in, my third. Distinguishing this day was the presence of about 10 French members of the European Parliament, in the region for some sort of mission, and tear gas, clouds and clouds of it, some claimed stronger than usual. I was gassed repeatedly, at one point nearly incapacitated, difficult to see and breathe, coughing, spitting, weakened. This occurred when the marchers, about 100 of us, roughly half local and half international were some 1/2 km from the Fence—the only females were one young village girl with her father in the front line and some internationals. (One other minor distinguishing feature: my new telephoto lens. Using it for the first time, experimenting with it, I discovered the world glows differently thru it.)
