Bil'in Celebrates Fifth Anniversary of Popular Resistance

Today, February 19th 2010, the village of Bil’in held a mass demonstration to commemorate the fifth anniversary of popular resistance against the Annexation Wall and the settlements. More than 3000 protesters attended today’s demonstration, of whom dozens suffered from tear gas suffocation and at least ten were directly injured.

Over a Thousand Demonstrators Marked Five Years of Struggle in Bil'in by Dismantling the Wall

One week following the victory forcing Israel to begin rerouting the path of the Wall, and under the shadow of an unprecedented wave of repression against the popular struggle, over a thousand protesters took part in a demonstration at the west Bank village of Bil’in, marking five years of struggle there. At the height of the demonstration dozens of protesters stormed the Barrier, toppled some 40 meters of it and crossed to village’s lands. Protesters also managed to take over a military post adjacent to the path of the Wall for a short time.

Four Bil’in Residents Detained While Accessing Farmland

At 11am Wednesday morning 2 jeeps and approximately 10 soldiers invaded Bil’in village. Witnesses reported that many young schoolgirls were coming home from their school day as soldiers surveyed the village. At one point, a sound bomb (stun grenade) and one tear gas canister were thrown on the street near the mosque, while soldiers attempted to stop a local cameraman from filming them.

Bil'in weekly demonstration reenacts the Avatar film

The village of Bil’in reenacted James Cameron’s new film Avatar during today’s weekly demonstration. Five Palestinian, Israeli and international activists were painted blue, with pointy ears and tales, resembling the Avatar characters. Like Palestinians, the Avatars fight imperialism, although the colonizers have different origins. The Avatars’ presence in Bil’in today symbolizes the united resistance to imperialism of all kinds.

Dozens Suffer Tear Gas Inhalation During the Weekly Protest in Bil'in

An EU delegation for monitoring Israeli army violations against protesters, lead by Mr. Thierry Vallat, along with international and Israeli activists joined a demonstration in Bil’in village on Friday. Protesters carrying Palestinian flags and banners called for an end to the Israeli occupation and the release of all Palestinian political prisoners.
